Danish engineering firm Semco Maritime has secured first orders for three new rig projects at Invergordon, UK.
The orders are for the equipment and upgrading of two Prospector Drilling jack-up rigs and the Norwegian-operated semi-submersible rig Songa Dee.
Earlier this year, Semco Maritime formed a partnership with the Port of Cromarty Firth to set up a centre for rig upgrades at Invergordon.
Semco Maritime will complete the final installations of the Prospector 5 jack-up drilling rig.
The Prospector 5 rig will see follow-up installation of client supplied equipment for the rig’s initial assignment.
Minor installation work will be undertaken on another Prospector Drilling rig, Prospector 1. Semco said the 112 by 80m wide Norwegian-operated semi-submersible rig Songa Dee is now moored at the Invergordon facilities’ deepwater quay, Queens Dock.
The company will carry out several electrical, structural, mechanical and pipe-work scopes in the next two months.
Semco Maritime UK general manager Frank Hall said: “Songa Dee is a good example of the type of large rigs that Semco Maritime is able to handle at the deep water facilities at Invergordon. The three orders bode well for our ambition to be the preferred leading provider of rig upgrades in the North Sea region.”
The Invergordon area in Northern Scotland has offered engineering work and support for the North Sea’s energy sector for more than 40 years.
