The Secretariat of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will participate in the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference planned for 30 November to 12 December in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
The OPEC Secretariat’s participation will include an intervention by HE Haitham Al Ghais, OPEC Secretary General, on 10 December during the High-Level Segment of the Conference; participation in various key meetings and engagements with attending parties, as well as hosting a pavilion in the Conference’s Blue Zone.
The OPEC Secretariat’s official delegation will be led by HE Al Ghais and include experts from OPEC’s Environmental Matters Department.
HE Al Ghais said: “We are immensely proud that our Member Country the United Arab Emirates will host this important global gathering during a critical juncture in history. World leaders, decision-makers and leading experts, including officials of OPEC Member Countries, have descended on Dubai to hold discussions and crucial negotiations on global issues with far-reaching implications.”
“The OPEC Secretariat will be present throughout the event to highlight OPEC’s stand on climate change and global mitigation efforts, as well as to highlight the significant contributions made by OPEC Member Countries in the domains of energy, sustainable development and the environment,” the Secretary General added.
The OPEC Pavilion will welcome visitors on a daily basis to present the remarkable efforts undertaken by the Organization and its Member Countries in developing, adopting and promoting various sustainable development and climate change mitigation initiatives and projects, especially with relation to the energy industry.
It will also feature various activities to raise awareness of OPEC’s mission and objectives as well as its stance regarding energy security, emissions reduction and energy transitions. The OPEC Pavilion will be located in Thematic Arena 3 of the Conference’s Blue Zone in Expo City Dubai.
