Riga Power Plant selected both the 20/20MI and 40/40I SharpEye Optical Flame Detectors to provide fire protection. Both types of detector feature IR3 optical spectral analysis, providing long distance detection with the ability to distinguish between real fires and various background heat sources, thus providing the highest immunity to false alarms.

Riga Power Station is the main supplier of power and district heat to Riga, the capital of Latvia. The plant is owned by Latvenergo and consists of four units with natural gas and heavy fuel as main fuel. The units are 20 years old and the main equipment has been undergoing rehabilitation works.

The existing air heaters of Russian design have a very high leakage of air to the fuel gas, hence limiting the production capacity of the plant. Some air heaters have operated with more than 50% leakage.
